After leading his team to back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history, Waynesburg University women's basketball coach Sam Jones was honored as the 2011-12 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the Year in late February at the PAC Championship Tournament.

Jones has been the architect of a continual reclamation project with the Jacket women. After inheriting a program that won just one game in 2007-08, he has led the program through a gradual rise up the conference standings. His four-year tenure has been highlighted by back-to-back third place conference finishes in 2011 and 2012, with his teams finishing only behind perennial NCAA tournament teams, Thomas More and Saint Vincent. The Jackets captured their first postseason trophy under Jones to conclude the 2010-11 season when they beat Catholic University 67-63 at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The program took things one step further this past season when they swept nationally-recognized conference rival Saint Vincent in a pair of PAC contests.

Several Yellow Jacket players were also honored by the conference for their outstanding play on the court. Senior point guard Hannah Hunter was named first-team All-PAC, while junior guards Jessi Drayer and Brittany Spencer were lauded as second-team and honorable-mention picks, respectively.
