The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center on the campus of Waynesburg University. Admission is free and doors open at 7 p.m. Reservations are not necessary.

GNP is a spring musical reunion for original band members and area musicians. Performers include Waynesburg University faculty, staff, students and alumni. The band first performed on the Waynesburg campus in 1970.

GNP was formed in the mid-1960s in New Jersey. Original band members, who will perform together April 21, include Bill Molzon, director of TV operations at Waynesburg University, Scott Buttfield, Tom Minson, Charlie Behrend and Jeannie Clark Fisher.

“This year’s show includes a variety of musical styles ranging from contemporary and classic rock, to bluegrass and country, to jazz,” Molzon said. “The musicians look forward to seeing each other and to performing for such a loyal audience. It’s a big show in a small town.”

“The McCollum brothers from Waynesburg will be in this year’s show. They are talented musicians and played in several local bands during the past 30 years. Dave McCollum is a WU alumnus and will make the trip from Atlanta. Jim McCollum is the group’s drummer. Mark McCollum was Band Director at West Greene Middle-Senior High School and Margaret Bell Miller Middle School. His sons Kian and Patrick also will perform. Jay Van Scyoc from Waynesburg will play bass.”

“It’s a multi-faceted event,” said Molzon. “In addition to being a concert for the campus and the community, it’s an educational opportunity for the school’s TV students. They use the school’s TV production truck to feed the wall monitors in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. The chair of the communication department, Richard Krause, supports this type of learning experience.”

Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, with three additional sites located in the Pittsburgh region. The University is one of only 22 Bonner Scholar schools in the country, offering local, regional and international opportunities to touch the lives of others through service.

GNP, a band formed at the New Jersey Shore in the mid 1960’s, has celebrated their reunion in the form of a spring concert every year at Waynesburg University since they started performing during the 1970 spring semester. The reunion has branched out to include other musical talents from the University and the region.

Band members of GNP include Bill Molzon ’73, director of TV operations at Waynesburg University and coordinator of the annual GNP concert, Jeannie Clark Fisher, Scott Buttfield, Linc Davis, Charlie Behrend and Tom Minson.

“I’m looking forward to producing another GNP reunion concert,” said Molzon. “The show has become a very nice town-gown event. People from the community and the University attend the concert for a night of quality performances.”

According to Molzon, musicians will be traveling from Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York and New Hampshire to create a variety of music. Area musicians will also perform. The concert will include both contemporary and classic rock, jazz, country, bluegrass and other types of music.
