Social Science: Political Science Option

What can you do with a background in Political Science from Waynesburg College? Ultimately, political science is and understanding of human and institutional relationships. When this knowledge is coupled with our strong liberal arts emphasis on writing, research, speaking, and critical thinking skills, our students are prepared for an unlimited number of career options. Our recent graduates are pursuing careers in such diverse fields as business, education, politics, government, law, journalism and, even, Naval aviation.

Political Science courses at Waynesburg College include the four main fields in political science today: American government and politics, political theory, international relations, and comparative politics. In addition to small classes taught by knowledgeable and caring professors, we offer the opportunity to experience politics hands-on in a variety of internship programs ranging from working with local governmental and non-profit agencies to internships in Washington D.C. and abroad.

 

Course Requirements


The History Department encourages its students to take advantage of a wide range of internships in Greene County Historical Society, the National park Service, the Washington County Historical Society, and the Museum of London.

Waynesburg College offers you the flexibility of a History degree with Pennsylvania teacher's certification. You can enroll as a history major while obtaining Pennsylvania social studies certification through our Secondary Education Option in History. As a member of this exciting and versatile program, you can specialize in history while preparing for a career as a high school teacher. With the advice and guidance of two advisors (History and Education), you will observe high school classes (sophomore year), complete a practicum (junior year), and complete a student teaching assignment (senior year). The Waynesburg College expereince enables students to develope the knowledge, experience, and a professional teaching style necessary to be a successful teacher.
