Michele Kabay joined the Waynesburg University Athletic Training staff the fall of 2004. Prior to joining Waynesburg University staff, Michele had worked at Slippery Rock University and Marywood University as an instructor and staff athletic trainer.
Michele grew up in Smicksburg, Pa in Armstrong County and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University in 1989. She then attended East Stroudsburg University where she completed a master of education degree in exercise science. At that time she also began a career at Allentown Sports Medicine Center providing athletic trainer services at Cedar Crest University and at Northern Lehigh and Northwestern high schools. While working in Eastern Pennsylvania Michele gained valuable experience as the Clinical Coordinator and director of Athletic Training outreach for a Sports Medicine Orthopedic clinic and later served as Wellness & Sports Medicine Director for a community hospital serving as athletic trainer for Marian Catholic, Tamaqua and Panther Valley high schools. After moving back to W.Pa in 1996, Michele worked for three years at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center working with some of the top orthopedic physicians in the country. During that time she also was the certified athletic trainer for Oakland Catholic H.S. and CCAC Allegheny Campus.
Michele brings valuable clinical and educational experience to the Waynesburg University athletic training program. She currently serves as our clinical coordinator, organizing all of the student’s clinical education that they gain during student rotations on and off campus. She is also the faculty advisor for the Athletic Trainer Student Association on campus. Her primary responsibilities as a certified athletic trainer are with women’s volleyball, men’s basketball and baseball.
Michele is an active member of the National athletic Trainer Association, Eastern Athletic Trainer Association, and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Association. She currently serves on the PATS Executive Board of Directors as the Association Secretary.
Michele has published two case studies in the NATA journal and presented them at the national athletic trainer association clinical symposium as well as the Eastern Athletic Trainer Association Symposium.
Michele is married to Michael Kabay and they have three sons, Joshua 14 years old, Matthew 13 years old & Patrick 12 years old. They currently live in Waynesburg and are busy with both University and middle school athletics as well as many church and youth functions. Two labrador retrievers are also a part of the family. They all enjoy outdoor activities, camping, fishing, and hiking.
