Waynesburg University nursing student to be honored for excellence in patient care

Waynesburg University Master of Science in Nursing degree program student Brittney D’Alessandro, BSN, RN, was recently selected by fellow nurses to represent Jefferson Regional Medical Center at the Cameos of Caring Awards Gala. The Gala will take place Nov. 6, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh.

As a student, D’Alessandro completed clinical rotations at Jefferson Regional Medical Center and spent time as a mentor student on the Behavioral Health Unit. D’Alessandro assisted in the development of the patient care program in the Jefferson Regional Stroke Care Unit. As a result, she now plays a fundamental role in stroke patient care.

“Brittney has demonstrated that she can successfully blend today’s nursing expectations with those qualities that made all of us choose nursing,” said Kim Finnerty, RN, patient care manager of the Stroke Care Unit.

Louise Urban, RN, vice president and chief nursing officer, agreed.

“Brittney is enthusiastic and consistently shows an eagerness to grow personally and professionally. In all aspects of her work, she displays a genuine compassion and caring towards her patients. We are proud to have Brittney represent Jefferson Regional Medical Center as our Cameo of Caring.”

The Cameos of Caring Award was created in 1999 to honor outstanding nurses for their dedication to quality patient care, increase public awareness of the nursing profession and recruit a new generation of nurses to offset future nursing. D’Alessandro was one of 14 registered nurses from Jefferson Regional Medical Center nominated for the award and joins approximately 50 registered nurses from the region that will also be recognized.

D’Alessandro earned her RN degree at the Community College of Allegheny County and her BSN at California University of Pennsylvania.

Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, with three adult centers located in the Pittsburgh region. The University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and is one of only 27 Bonner Scholar schools in the country, offering local, regional and international opportunities to touch the lives of others through service.
