Chemistry honorary inducts seven
Seven new members were inducted into Gamma Sigma Epsilon (GSE), the chemistry honorary at Waynesburg University, Friday, April 16. The ceremony took place in the Center for Research and Economic Development on the campus of Waynesburg University.
Gamma Sigma Epsilon was founded in 1919 and has over 40 college and university chapters across the country. Waynesburg’s chapter is open to science majors and minors who meet specific eligibility requirements. Dr. Heidi Fletcher, assistant professor of chemistry at Waynesburg University, serves as the faculty advisor for the Waynesburg chapter.
The seven new members will join 24 current members. The honorary is relatively new to Waynesburg University, as this will be the fourth induction. The chapter was chartered in 2007.
The inductees include:
• Nicole Marie Briggeman, a senior forensic science major from Missoula, Mont. (Hellgate High School)
• Brittany Kay Cook, a senior forensic science major from Tarrs (Connellsville Area High School)
• Sarah Louise Farquhar, a sophomore chemistry major from Belle Vernon (Belle Vernon Area High School)
• Jessica R. Husman, a junior biology (pre-dental/medical/veterinary) major from Waynesburg (Carmichaels Area High School)
• Janelle Catherine-Elizabeth Jones, a sophomore chemistry/secondary education major from Weirton, W.Va. (Weirton High School)
• April N. Perts, a senior forensic science major from Hyndman (Meyersdale Area High School)
• Jacob Vincent Vehar IV, a sophomore chemistry major from Holbrook (Waynesburg Central High School)
“I felt very honored opening my congratulatory letter,” said sophomore inductee, Janelle Jones. “Being one of three inductees in my class made me understand just how prestigious the program is.”
GSE officers include Danielle Celesnik (President), Kelly Brady (Vice President), Miranda Thornton (Treasurer) and Brianne Miller (secretary).
Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, with three adult centers located in the Pittsburgh region. The University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and is one of only 27 Bonner Scholar schools in the country, offering local, regional and international opportunities to touch the lives of others through service.
