New speaker series to “ignite the entrepreneurial spirit”
The Office of Alumni Relations and the Center for Research & Economic Development will introduce a new speaker series on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:45 a.m. in the Center for Research and Economic Development on the campus of Waynesburg University. Breakfast will be provided with an educational lecture to begin at 8 a.m.
The series, “Igniting the Entrepreneurial Spirit,” is geared toward regional business owners and principals, graduate students, undergraduate students and local alumni. The series will benefit those interested in fostering entrepreneurship in southwestern Pennsylvania. The series is free and open to the public.
“Anyone who owns their own business or is interested in starting a business is encouraged to attend,” said Heidi Szuminsky, director of Alumni Relations.
Marilyn H. West, Chairman and CEO of M. H. West & Co., Inc., a leading planning and consulting firm in Richmond, Va., will launch the series at the breakfast briefing Thursday morning.
West graduated from Waynesburg University in 1967 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award, presented by the Alumni Council, in 2006. Her business is recognized for its innovative and practical solutions to challenges and opportunities experienced by its clients.
“We hope to hold the Igniting the Entrepreneurial Spirit Speaker Series once each semester,” Szuminsky said. “Each session will have an explicit focus that will target more specific audiences. The topic will be chosen according to each individual speaker’s strengths.”
