Jazz Festival to showcase area high school, professional musicians

Jazz musicians from the Greene County area will perform at the third annual Waynesburg University Jazz Festival on Saturday, May 22 at 7:30 p.m. The event will kick off the University’s summer Celebrating the Arts Series. The performance will be held in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center on the campus of Waynesburg University. Admission is free and the public is cordially invited to attend.

Mark McCullom, band director at Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, will conduct the Student Big Band. Jim DePriest, events coordinator at Waynesburg University, will coordinate the faculty ensemble.

The festival features both high school musicians, who are suggested by their band director to take part in the event, and several professional jazz artists from the area. Area band directors are encouraged to contact Dr. Ronda DePriest, director of the Music Program at Waynesburg University, with names of students who are interested in performing in the Student Big Band.

Rehearsals will be held after school hours Friday, May 21, and during the morning of Saturday, May 22.
