Mariner named Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies

Robert Graham, Waynesburg University Provost, recently announced that David Mariner, Assistant Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at Waynesburg University, has been named Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, effective immediately.

Mariner succeeds Mr. Joseph A. Graff who was instrumental in the development of Waynesburg University’s graduate programs. Graff recently requested a change of responsibility and will now serve as a special assistant to both the Provost and the Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies.

“Mr. Graff’s vision, dedication and initiative have significantly contributed to the University's success in this area. Mr. Mariner has worked closely with Joe Graff for many years and it is expected that he will continue the successful momentum of these programs,” Dr. Graham said.

Mariner said he is excited and eager to take on a new leadership role, and gives much credit to Graff for the way he has encouraged his professional development.

“Dean Graff laid the foundation for our graduate programs on quality and integrity. He is an inspiration for students, faculty and staff alike,” Mariner said.

Mariner is confident that he and the present graduate and professional studies team will continue to make strides.

“I look forward to the challenges and changes that higher education will continue to experience as we move onward,” he said. “I feel fortunate to work with really great people. The directors of our programs in business, counseling, education and nursing are experienced leaders in their respective fields. They have done a great job of creating and maintaining quality programs in higher education.”

Mariner received his Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College and his Master of Business Administration degree from Waynesburg University. He is currently pursing his Ph.D. in instructional management and leadership at Robert Morris University.

Mariner started with Waynesburg University in 1999. He resides in Waynesburg, Pa., with his wife, Julie, and their two children, Ava and Isabella.

Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, with three adult centers located in the Pittsburgh region. The University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and is one of only 27 Bonner Scholar schools in the country, offering local, regional and international opportunities to touch the lives of others through service.
