Celebrating the Arts Series to present Proposals

Waynesburg University’s Celebrating the Arts series will present a community production of Proposals Thursday, July 22 through Saturday, July 24. The performances will be held in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. each evening. Admission is $5 and the public is cordially invited to attend.

The play is set in 1953 in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and centers around the Hines family which includes many complex characters. Josie Hines, the 23-year-old daughter of Burt Hines, has recently ended her engagement which leads to humorous results for all involved, as the characters lives are intertwined throughout the progression of the play.

The play is written by Neil Simon who also authored well-known classics The Odd Couple and Barefoot in the Park.

The New York Post calls Proposals “extremely entertaining” and “a play of great warmth and charm.”

The cast includes alumni, current students and members of the local community.

The Proposals cast includes:

• Clemma Diggins played by Tome Custer, a community member.
• Burt Hines played by Jim Handley, a Waynesburg University alumus.
• Josie Hines played by Sable Griedel, a Waynesburg University student.
• Ken Norman played by Ben Zyra, a Waynesburg University alumnus.
• Ray Dolenz played by Mike Winland, a Waynesburg University student.
• Annie Robbins played by Emily Martin, a Waynesburg University student.
• Vinnie Bavasi played by Jordan Thompson, a recent Waynesburg University graduate.
• Sammii played by Brittany Blair-Martin, a community member.
• Lewis Barnett played by Luke Payson, a Waynesburg University alumnus.

The play will be directed by Edward L. Powers. Marc Smith will serve as the stage manager.
