Broberg, Harner elected to University Board of Trustees, Wilson to return to Board
The Rev. Dr. Stuart D. Broberg, Designated Pastor of The Church of the Convenant located in Washington, Pa., and Mark A. Harner, Vice President for Shared Services at Waste Management, Inc., have recently joined the Waynesburg University Board of Trustees. In addition, the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Wilson, Interim Pastor at Hewitt Presbyterian Church in Rices Landing, Pa., will return to the Waynesburg University Board of Trustees.
“These individuals bring an abundance of knowledge and skill sets in a variety of professional areas,” said Waynesburg University President Timothy R. Thyreen. “I know that each individual is committed to furthering the mission of this University.”

Prior to his current role, Broberg served as an assistant to the President of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and pastorates in Birmingham, Mich; Hickory, Pa.; Des Moines, Iowa; and Alexandria, Va. He has also served interim pastorates at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Pittsburgh and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair, Pa. He will be installed as the Senior Pastor of The Church of the Covenant September 26.
Broberg attended Dickinson College and the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pa., Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J., and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary where he received his Doctor of Ministry degree in 1990.
Born and raised in Washington County, Broberg was ordained by the Washington Presbytery 25 years ago. He speaks extensively about the issues of stewardship, planned giving, endowment building, capital campaigns, church revitalization and growth, worship and preaching, and church spiritual renewal throughout the denomination.
Broberg has served on numerous boards including Board of Directors of the Presbyterian Foundation, Board of Managers of the New Wilmington Mission Conference and the Board of the East End Cooperative Ministry, among others. Additionally, he serves as a board member of the World Mission Initiative of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and has assisted numerous nonprofits and religious organizations with planned giving, finances and stewardship.
Harner, Vice President for Shared Services at Waste Management, Inc., received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Waynesburg University in 1979 and also served as the valedictorian of his graduating class.He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Financial Executives Institute and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Harner was promoted to his current position in 2002, and previously served as the director of the Waste Management Service Center. In 2005, Harner assumed leadership over Waste Management’s Revenue Management Center and was promoted to Vice President for Shared Services, reporting to the company’s Chief Financial Officer.
Harner oversees a 200-person Waste Management Service Center team in Houston, Texas, and a 250-person Revenue Management Center team in Phoenix, Ariz. In addition to overseeing Waste Management’s credit and collections center, Harner is responsible for a variety of operations including accounts payable, payroll, cash applications, benefits administration, fixed assets accounting and procurement card administration, among others.
Harner resides in Houston, Texas, with his wife, Cindy. They have four children – Josh, Jenna, Jaymie and Joanna.
Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 1964 from Waynesburg University (then Waynesburg College). Upon completion of his undergraduate degree at Waynesburg University, Wilson received his Master of Divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
In 1992, Waynesburg University awarded Wilson an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his professional achievements, his community service activities and his significant leadership and involvement with the University.
With the exception of the past year, Wilson has served on the Waynesburg University Board of Trustees since 2000. He also served on the Alumni Council from 1991 to 1999.
From 1967 to 2005, Wilson served as the pastor of Lebanon United Presbyterian in West Middlesex, Pa. He also served as the Protestant Chaplain at the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility of Mercer, Pa., where he developed a drug and alcohol self-help program. For more than 20 years, Wilson served the West Middlesex Area School Board and has acted as a consultant to the County Courts in Youth Services for a number of years.
Following his retirement from Lebanon United Presbyterian Church, Wilson served as the interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesburg for five months and the interim pastor at First Baptist Church of Waynesburg for more than three years.
Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania, with three adult centers located in the Pittsburgh region.
