ATTENTION DEPARTMENT CHAIRS:
GRADUATE’S DISPLAY OF ACADEMIC HONORS:  Only Waynesburg University Honor cords and Academic Excellence pins shall be worn on the robe during the Commencement ceremonies. No pins or other decorations are to be displayed on either the cap or gown. Graduates are not permitted to carry or wear flowers during the ceremonies. 

ANY DEPARTMENTAL OR ORGANIZATIONAL RECOGNITION CORDS, SASHES, ETC. ARE PERMITTED ONLY AT THE ACADEMIC HONORS CEREMONY IN APRIL.

SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES

         Sunday, May 19, 2013

10:00 a.m. – Faculty/Staff Robing in the Marsh Center
10:55 a.m. – Baccalaureate Procession Begins
11:00 a.m. – The Baccalaureate Service (Roberts Chapel)
11:45 a.m. – Commencement Luncheon (serving for faculty/staff begins at 11:00am in the Bee Hive)
1:00 p.m.   – Faculty/Staff Robing in the Fitness Center, 2nd Floor
1:55 p.m.   – Commencement Procession begins
2:00 p.m.   – Commencement Exercises – University Campus

II.      ATTENDANCE

 Faculty members unable to participate in Commencement exercises should notify the Provost by May 2nd.
Administrative staff members: all will be involved in the activities of the day
Support staff members that are not involved in the activities of the day are invited to attend Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises.

 

III.      ACADEMIC REGALIA

Faculty members participating in the Commencement procession wear full academic attire.  Those who do not own robes and hoods should rent them through the University Bookstore.  If you need to rent academic regalia, please contact the bookstore at 724-852-2665 no later April 5th.

Reminder:  Stewart Hall is closing for renovations effective 5/10/13.  If your office is in this building, please remember to take your regalia with you when you leave after finals.  No one will be able to access the building after 5/10/13.

 IV.       ROBING AND ASSEMBLING FOR THE ACADEMIC EXERCISES             

Baccalaureate:

Faculty will robe in the Marsh Center.  Robing should be complete by 10:00 a.m.  The double file rows of participants for this procession will form no later than 10:40 a.m.  The procession begins promptly at 10:50 a.m.  Baccalaureate will be held in Roberts Chapel regardless of weather conditions.

 Commencement:

Faculty will robe in the Fitness Center. Robing should be complete by 1:00 p.m.  The double file rows of participants for this procession will form no later than 1:45 p.m.  The procession begins promptly at 1:55 p.m. 

  V.      GENERAL INFORMATION: 

            Commencement LuncheonsAll Waynesburg University employees are invited to attend the Commencement luncheon held in the Bee Hive.  Serving for faculty/staff begins at 11:00 a.m.  Please contact Institutional Advancement for luncheon reservations (click here).  Tickets are required for this event.  You will need to pick up your ticket(s) in the Institutional Advancement Office between May 1 and May 10, 2013

             Reception Following CommencementAn informal reception will be held in Fountain Park immediately following Commencement.   In case of inclement weather, the reception will be held in Benedum Dining Hall.

             In Case of Inclement Weather:  Commencement will be held in the Marisa Fieldhouse.  In this instance, participants will form the processions in the foyer of the gymnasium and proceed to seating on the main floor of the Marisa Fieldhouse.  The graduates will form the procession inside the gymnasium. Seating for Commencement in the Marisa Fieldhouse will require a ticket.  Due to the size of the graduating class, extra tickets for family members of faculty and staff may not be available.  Ticket requests for this facility will be given wait list status.  Ticket requests should be directed to the Institutional Advancement Office via email (click here).  Guests without tickets may view the ceremony via closed circuit TV from the Performing Arts Center, Alumni Hall, or Roberts Chapel.

             Reserved ParkingThe Miller Hall parking lot will be reserved for the special guests of the University, and the Stover/Hanna Hall lot will be used for visitors requiring handicap parking.  For the comfort and safety of our graduates and their families, please honor the barricades and restricted parking areas established for Commencement Day.  Security Officers will be stationed throughout the campus to direct employees to available parking areas.

             The ProcessionsWhen the Commencement Procession reaches the front walk of Miller Hall, the graduates will divide into two columns and allow the rest of the procession to pass between them.

             When the Commencement Recessional reaches the fountain, faculty will divide into two columns
             and allow the graduates to pass between the members of the faculty and administration.   
             Please do not break rank or interrupt the recessional until it has reached the fountain in the park. 

             Once the Commencement Procession FormsAny graduate arriving after the Commencement procession has formed should be directed to the Registrar’s representative who will be located at the entrance of the Gymnasium.
