Waynesburg University and the NCAA require that all intercollegiate varsity athletes show proof of insurance coverage each year prior to participating. Proof of Insurance must be kept on file in the athletes medical record by submiting the insurance information form along with a photo copy of the front and back of the current insurance card. Athletes will not be permitted to practice or compete until proof of insurance is submitted to the athletic department.
If there is any change in insurance coverage during the academic year of participation, the student or parent/gaurdian is responsibile for notifying the athletic department of this change. The student athlete or parent should log into Homelink online to change insurance information and then submit a copy of the new insurance card to the Athletic Training Department.
Student's who do not have primary insurance coverage are strongly encouraged to purchase the general health insurance through Waynesburg University. This insurance will cover accidents and hospitalization otherwise uncovered by the Athletics Accident Policy. All other expenses due to athletic-related injury will be submitted to the accident insurance policy held by the Waynesburg University Athletic Department. Procedures for submitting these claims are listed below.
Student athletes are responsible for handling their medical bills by the following procedures:
1. Submit all medical bills to the primary insurance policy first. Medical bills not paid in full by the primary insurance policy should be submitted to the Department of Athletics at Waynesburg University.
2. Bills must be accompanied by an "Explanation of Benefits Form" or "Denial Letter" from the primary insurance company.
3. Student athletes without primary insurance coverage should submit bills to the Waynesburg University Athletic Department. Barb Tuggle will handle all claims for the Athletic Department
4. The student-athlete will have to sign an insurance claim form at this time
