Melanie Catana (Fine Arts) was the women’s choir guest conductor at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District I Honors Choir held at Trinity High School.

Andy Heisey (Fine Arts) spoke at the Association of Christian Schools International Professional Development Forum held at Grove City College. Heisey led a session titled, “Using Art History to teach Biblical Principles.”

Kelley Solomon (Education) represented the Education Department by presenting at the 2017 West Virginia Reading Association Conference in November. Her presentation was titled, “Critical Literacy: Thinking in All Directions.”

The Education Department hosted an Early Literacy Summit in conjunction with Laurel Highlands School District, Intermediate Unit 1 and Scholastic. Approximately 20 preschool and kindergarten teachers participated, along with Waynesburg University junior and senior early childhood majors.

Kimberly Stephens and Kimberly Whiteman (Graduate Nursing), along with Amber Egyud DNP, RN, Brenda Swanson-Bierman DNP, MPH, RN, and Marge DiCuccio MSN, RN, had an article titled “Implementation of Human Trafficking Education and Treatment Algorithm in the Emergency Department” published in the Journal of Emergency Nursing, Volume 43, Issue 6, in November. Stephens, Whiteman and Swanson-Beirman worked alongside Elizabeth R. Tedesco DNP, RN, CEN, PHRN and Melanie Heuston DNP, RN, NEA-BC to also have and article titled “Interprofessional Collaboration to Improve Sepsis Care and Survival within a Tertiary Care Emergency Department” published in the same edition of the Journal of Emergency Nursing.

Stephens and Whiteman attended the SWPONL Fall 2017 Education and Networking Session – Resiliency in Nursing: Implications for Nurse Leaders in Pittsburgh.

Stephens also attended the 20107 Annual West Virginia Organization of Nursing Leadership Conference in Morgantown.

Paula Sexton (Nursing) gave a poster presentation at the Annual West Virginia Organization of Nursing Leadership Conference.

Lina Hixson (RN-BSN) attended the AACN Baccalaureate Education Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

The James D. Randolph Kiltie Band performed as part of Jefferson’s Veteran’s Parade for the third year on Nov. 11. The Kiltie Band also performed at the Rogersville United Methodist Church as part of their Veteran’s Service.
