b2ap3_thumbnail_Untitled1GPAC.jpgWaynesburg University will host an evening of one-act plays Thursday, April 16, at 8 p.m. in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend.

The one-act plays bring student work to life as students perform their scripts written from a recent playwriting course. Original one-act plays are showcased and presented in a workshop format.

Under the supervision of Edward L. Powers, director of the theater program and professor of theater at Waynesburg University, this special night of theater allows audiences to experience another side of the Theater Program and to support the efforts of student actors, student directors and especially, student writers.

“One-act plays are valuable in that they provide students an opportunity to direct their peers,” said Powers. “For students acting in the performances, one-act plays afford them the opportunity to work with different directors. Projects such as these continue to build leadership and teamwork skills.”

Reservations are strongly suggested. Seats may be reserved by calling 724-852-3226.

b2ap3_thumbnail_pottery.pngA student art exhibition will be held in the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery on the campus of Waynesburg University Monday, April 13, through Friday, April 24.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with an opening reception Monday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend. The student art exhibition will showcase the best student work of the spring semester.

The exhibit will showcase a variety of mediums including ceramics, drawings, prints, sculptures and a variety of two- and three- dimensional pieces. The pieces on display are selected by the Waynesburg University art faculty.

“Art is not really complete until it is shown to someone else,” said Andrew Heisey, assistant professor of art and art program director at Waynesburg University. “For many of the students, this will be the only time they will get to see their work on display in an art gallery. That experience alone shows the importance of the student exhibits.”

Philip Hurd, a senior music ministry major from Prattsburgh, N.Y., and Allyson Georgian, a junior forensic accounting major from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, were recently selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival.

The 68th annual festival will be held Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 8, at Bloomsburg University. Founded in 1948, the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band is the oldest continually operating band of its kind in the United States.

Each year, students from colleges and universities across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are recommended by their band directors, submit applications and are chosen to participate by a selection committee.

“This year, we are sending a music ministry major and a music minor as our emissaries to this fine ensemble,” said Dr. Ronda DePriest, associate professor of instrumental music and director of the Music Program at Waynesburg University. “I am always proud to see our students take advantage of opportunities that are open to them, whether those opportunities present themselves on our campus or in surrounding communities.”
