It’s that time of year! Cooler air, crisp leaves, pumpkin spice, apple cider, and the Banned Books Contest at the Writing Center. Banned Books Week is recognized nationally in the last week of September, and the Waynesburg University Writing Center traditionally continues the celebration for a full month in October.
The Writing Center invites all Waynesburg University students to submit their own writing to the following prompt: In 500 words or less, pretend that your favorite book has been banned. How would you feel? What would you do if you could no longer read or share your most loved book?
Be creative! Poetry, flash fiction, short narratives, and essays are among many genres you can use to explore the consequences of book censorship, but all forms of writing will be considered. Entries are accepted now through October 30 at 11:59 p.m. The winning entry will be published in November’s Buzz Words.
Entries can be emailed to the Writing Center Coordinator, Sarah Scott, at sscott@waynesburg.edu .
