Marissa Mendoza

Assistant Professor of Psychology


Dr. Marissa Mendoza is an assistant professor of psychology. Her doctorate from Texas A&M University has emphases in pediatric psychology, neuropsychology, and child and family. She completed her APA-accredited clinical psychology internship at Oregon Health Science University and post-doctoral training with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinics (WPIC). Dr. Mendoza has worked in pediatric hospitals providing diagnostic and therapeutic psychological services to children and adolescents with chronic illnesses and neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Mendoza is a nationally certified school psychologist and has worked in school districts in Texas, Oregon, California and Ohio.

Dr. Medoza holds a Ph.D. in school psychology from Texas A&M University, a master's degree in experimental psychology from McNeese State University and a bachelor's degree in environmental analysis and design from the University of California, Irvine.


Dr. Mendoza is experienced with clinical research, particularly with empirically supported interventions for children with ASD. She also worked as a research psychologist for autism research studies at WPIC. She continues to hold research interests with child and adolescent development within an ecological system and biopsychosocial perspective. She has developing research interest in the intersection of faith, mental health, and positive psychology in adolescent development. Dr. Mendoza strongly encourages student involvement with research.

In addition to Introduction to Psychology, Dr. Mendoza teaches courses related to child development and clinical psychology (e.g., Child Psychopathology, Psychological Measurement and Evaluation). She has developed courses in School Psychology and Positive Psychology. Dr. Mendoza believes in experiential learning and emphasizes the relevance of psychology across many careers.
