Waynesburg University is a Christian liberal arts university recognized consistently for its commitment to value and outcomes for its students. Waynesburg and its faculty and staff are deeply committed to achieving the goals outlined in its Strategic Plan. These goals are the culmination of equal parts research and reflection, representing the important focus of this campus community to help students make connections that transform communities and the world, while remaining steadfastly focused on the University’s mission of faith, learning and serving.

Three high-level priorities and goals are:

  1. Offering academic programs (and programming) grounded in the University’s mission that will maximize student success and outcomes.
  2. Ensuring that a Waynesburg University education remains accessible to qualified students.
  3. Maintaining and growing our reputation as a premier institution of Christian higher education that is committed to its strong mission.

In the last three years, through unprecedented fundraising and support, the University has enhanced many programs and facilities, including:

  • Over $2 million for a cross-curricular entrepreneurial leadership center that has received repeated national recognition as a leader in teaching the entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset;
  • Over $2 million for the construction of a new center for criminal and forensic investigation, expected to be completed fall 2024;
  • Over $2 million in gifts that have supported improvement to its athletic facilities;
  •  A 56-acre historic farm site with a stone home from 1820, a barn from 1790 and one of the earliest log homes in the region that will be used for a number of programs for the University and community;
  • Over $3 million in upgrades to our science programs, including state-of-the-art research equipment in chemistry, upgraded infrastructure for the nursing program;
  • Over $1 million for state-of-the-art, high-definition communications equipment for the Department of Communication;
  • Over $1 million for computer related programming, including a $400,000 esports arena.

While the University is grateful for the numerous educational and programmatic enhancements, there is also a corresponding commitment to continue to evolve as a university and meet the demands of changing times. 

The challenges before higher education today are numerous and require vigilant focus by all universities. As a leading institution of higher education, Waynesburg University is prepared to make the bold decisions these moments require.

Waynesburg's strategic plan is laser focused on its differentiators that set it apart from other institutions of higher education. It is more important than ever to achieve the goals of our strategic plan. To be successful, it is imperative that the University thoughtfully allocates its resources to facilitate success. Waynesburg has always been very conscientious in managing its administrative costs to keep tuition affordable and accessible to its students. Constant assessment and corresponding action, a reflection of data informed decisions, will continue to be paramount. 

Waynesburg utilizes many sources of data, such as, but not limited to: trends, growth sectors, empirical and analytical historic data, enrollment data, departmental and program data, recruitment and retention data, student interests, faculty and staff committee reports, ad-hoc committees focused on enhancing efficiency and assessment for accreditation self-study.

Waynesburg University has persevered for 175 years, leaving a remarkable legacy of educating tens of thousands of students with outstanding outcomes. Today, its leadership takes its responsibility to carry on that legacy as its highest priority, with a commitment to act in the best interests of the  institution continuing its long history of self-assessment and adjustment, to evolve and thrive in these dynamic times.
