Waynesburg University’s Department of Fine Arts will feature new instructor Sophia Park’s artwork from Monday, Jan. 30, until Friday, Feb. 24.
I am very excited to introduce everyone to Sophia Park.”
Despite Park’s exhibition being new to the University’s campus, this is not her first time displaying her work.
“I have over 75 exhibitions, including both solo exhibitions and group exhibitions,” Park said.
This particular exhibition will feature five “wearable sculptures that constrict and impede body movement in various ways,” according to Park. She went on to explain that each piece was inspired by her own “experiences” and “observations of nature.”
While viewers will not be able to wear the pieces displayed on the models themselves, Andrew Heisey, chairman of the Fine Arts Department, said that there will be “recorded performances of people interacting with her sculptural jewelry.”
For many individuals, this could be their first time meeting Park and seeing her work.
“Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to get to know her as an artist and instructor,” Heisey said. “I am very excited to introduce everyone to Sophia Park.”
An opening reception will be held Monday, Jan. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
