Tim Durkin Apr 13, 2023

Waynesburg University will host its 11th Annual Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Work Symposium in the Auxiliary Gym April 26 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. All members of the Waynesburg community are invited to attend.

The 11th Annual Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Work Symposium is an exciting opportunity for students conducting research to present their work to the Waynesburg community and for the Waynesburg community to learn and support their work."

Dr. Christian Hayes

The symposium will feature five 10-minute oral presentations and 18 poster presentations, with 26 total students presenting overall. A diverse set of majors will be represented, including environmental science, biochemistry, marine biology, psychology and more.

“The 11th Annual Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Work Symposium is an exciting opportunity for students conducting research to present their work to the Waynesburg community and for the Waynesburg community to learn and support their work,” Dr. Christian Hayes, associate professor of biology, said. “Not only is it an occasion for students actively researching, but it is also a perfect opportunity for student community members to explore their fields of interest and broaden their exposure to research.”

Snacks will be served at the event and the University’s chapter of the Psi Chi Psychology International Honor Society will be selling additional food as a fundraiser.

“Students who are presenting at the symposium get a chance to talk about their research to the larger community, get valuable experience on how to give scientific presentations and get input from faculty and community members across the Waynesburg community on their research, including detailed feedback from faculty judges,” Hayes said. “Likewise, student community members that attend the event get the chance to support their friends and learn something new about how research works and what amazing things are being discovered.”
