Waynesburg to host Out of Darkness suicide prevention walk

Micah Leith Mar 14, 2022

Waynesburg University has partnered with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host an Out of Darkness suicide prevention walk Sunday, April 10. The walk is open to the public.

Registration will open at noon in Johnson Commons on Waynesburg’s main campus, and the opening ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. Click here to preregister

The event serves to honor lives that have been lost to suicide and to provide support to people who are struggling with mental health.

“I think many of us have been directly affected whether through a loss of a family member, friend, or have just known someone that is struggling,” said Adrienne Tharp, director of the Center for Service Leadership and Bonner Scholars Program and one of the coordinators for the event. “We want people to know they aren’t alone. It’s a special way to bring people together.”

Participants will be able to visit tables that provide resources, raffles and other opportunities. Waynesburg University first held a suicide prevention walk in March 2018.
