The Waynesburg University Department of Education hosted students from Trinity East Elementary School Tuesday, Dec. 3, for a winter-themed activity day.
“The purpose of the event was to expose young students to a college campus, as well as fun educational activities in a small-group setting,” said Dr. Deana Mack, chair of the Department of Education and assistant professor of education.
Members of Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society, led activities with the students in the areas of math, reading and science.
The event not only benefits the elementary school students but also the Waynesburg education majors that participated.
“The event gives [education majors] the opportunity to work with students from other schools in small groups by learning how students behave, learning what students like to learn and learning how to teach a small group of students,” Mack said. “Hopefully, when they student teach, they will have enough experience in this so that they can succeed.”
