The Waynesburg University Players will perform “Cotton Patch Gospel” Wednesday, March 29, through Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Goodwin Performing Arts Center.
It is a toe-tapping, hand-clapping telling of the Gospel story. We certainly want the audience to be entertained by this Southern narrative, but we also want the audience to come away with the message of the Lord.”
“Cotton Patch Gospel” is a retelling of the story of Jesus, but with a twist: the story is set in the American South. So, instead of traveling to Jerusalem, Jesus goes to Atlanta.
“It is a toe-tapping, hand-clapping telling of the Gospel story,” Edward Powers, professor of theatre, said. “We certainly want the audience to be entertained by this Southern narrative, but we also want the audience to come away with the message of the Lord.”
Powers assembled a cast of five students and three community members for the musical. He said that all of them are working hard to bring “Cotton Patch Gospel” to the stage.
“The success of any show relies on the volunteer help and talent of our students,” Powers said, noting that the audience is another crucial component to success.
“Please support the theatre with your presence,” he said.
