Waynesburg University will celebrate the 168th anniversary of its charter by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with a special convocation at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, in Roberts Chapel. Additionally, the University will hold a Day of Service Saturday, March 17.
“Charter Day affords us an opportunity to reflect on our rich heritage and reaffirm our mission of educating students to make connections between faith, serving and learning so that they might faithfully live lives of purpose,” said Waynesburg University President Douglas G. Lee.
Paulo Nzambi, CEO and head of school at Imani Christian Academy in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be the featured convocation speaker. He will deliver an address titled “The Present and its Possibilities.”
Prior to Nzambi’s recent appointment as CEO and head of school at Imani Christian Academy, he served as the chief operating officer for the Manchester Bidwell Corporation and the National Center for Arts and Technology. Additionally, he has served as a trial lawyer at the state and federal level, representing individuals, corporations and the City of Pittsburgh in civil rights, employment and tort litigation.
Nzambi’s diverse employment experience also includes being a published poet, playwright and entrepreneur.
He serves on the board of directors for the Center of Life, The Tull Family Theatre, Radiant Hall and the Union of African Communities of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
Nzambi earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University and a law degree from Duquesne University School of Law.
During the March 17 Day of Service, Waynesburg University students will serve alongside faculty and staff at the following organizations: Adopt-A-Highway, Beverly’s Birthdays, Eva K. Bowlby Public Library, the Greene County Humane Society, the Ronald McDonald House and the Waynesburg University Unity Trail.
“There is no better way to fulfill [our] mission and celebrate the University’s Charter Day than through a day of giving back to our community,” said Kelley Hardie, assistant dean of students.
