Waynesburg University's Welcome Days, designed to help integrate students into their lives as a Yellow Jackets and to familiarize them with their new Waynesburg family, were held Thursday, Aug. 24 to Sunday, Aug. 27.
During Welcome Days, students had opportunities to connect with new and current students, faculty and staff while learning about the resources and services that Waynesburg University has to offer on campus. Students also met their Fiat Lux class and academic advisors and had the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun activities.
On Friday, Aug. 25, the annual Matriculation Ceremony officially kicked off Waynesburg University’s 2023-24 academic year, welcoming nearly 400 new students to campus.
President Douglas G. Lee, academic department chairs and other University leaders welcomed the freshman class during the 2 p.m. ceremony in Roberts Chapel. During the ceremony, President Lee urged new students to develop perseverance as an essential quality of their character. Referencing Romans 5, he shared that “perseverance produces character; character produces hope; and hope does not disappoint.”
The names of the matriculating students were announced by Lanny Frattare, Assistant Professor of Communication and former voice of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and Doug Wilson, Lecturer of Communication.
On Saturday, new students participated in a variety of service projects on campus and around Greene County. Service sites included:
