Andrew Stanko
Instructor of Communication
Biography
Andy Stanko serves as an Instructor of Communication at Waynesburg University, where he teaches courses in sports announcing, video production, live production and broadcast journalism. Stanko began teaching at Waynesburg in 2024 and joined the faculty full time in 2025.
A 2017 graduate of Waynesburg University with a degree in sports broadcasting and sports information, Stanko returned to his alma mater after more than six years in collegiate athletics communications. He previously served as the university’s Sports Information Director and Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication before transitioning into a full-time faculty role.
Before returning to Waynesburg, Stanko was the Sports Information Director at Milligan University in Tennessee, where he was recognized as the 2021–22 Willie Belcher Appalachian Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year and named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 class. At Milligan, he successfully promoted three NAIA national championship teams, three national runners-up, and 17 NAIA and USA Cycling individual or event national champions. He coordinated media coverage for numerous championship events, provided live statistics and broadcasts for AAC volleyball, basketball, softball and swimming championships and led a social media strategy that grew Milligan’s departmental Instagram account to the largest following in the AAC.
An experienced play-by-play broadcaster, Stanko has announced over 300 collegiate athletic events across 12 sports, including conference championships in wrestling, swimming and men’s basketball. His high school coverage experience includes WPIAL district championship broadcasts in football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and diving, as well as a PIAA state championship in softball.
Stanko also worked in athletic communications at Washington & Jefferson College and Frostburg State University, gaining extensive experience in live event production, media relations and digital content creation.
He earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Frostburg State University in 2019 and is a member of the College Sports Communicators.
Stanko and his wife, Marissa (’16), reside in Waynesburg with their cats, Milo, Rio and Millie.
