Sports Information Director and Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication
Biography
Andy Stanko (’17) returned to Waynesburg as its Sports Information Director & Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication in March 2024 after spending the previous two-and-a-half years as the Sports Information Director at Milligan University (Tennessee).
During his time at Milligan, Stanko was awarded the 2021-22 Willie Belcher AAC SID of Year award, selected by the sports information directors across the Appalachian Athletic Conference. He was named to the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 class of 2023. While with the Buffs, he successfully promoted 36 CSC Academic All-Americans, including three Academic All-America Team Members of the Year.
Stanko promoted three NAIA national championship teams, three national runners-up and 17 NAIA and USA Cycling individual or event national champions. He provided statistics at the AAC volleyball, basketball and softball conference tournaments. Under his watch, he grew Milligan’s social media presence into the largest department-wide Instagram account in the AAC, and Milligan’s average monthly social media reach increased by over 600 percent during his tenure.
Before Milligan, he spent the previous two years at Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) member Washington & Jefferson College, where he oversaw all video streaming and launched a new athletics YouTube channel, which posted nearly 200 video highlights over the course of two abbreviated years. He instituted a new "Presidents Postgame" segment for social media, created over 30 Adobe Spark Visual Previews and revamped the Presidents' photo management systems.
Stanko spent two years at Frostburg State University as a graduate assistant and intern in the athletic communications office. His primary role at Frostburg State was to oversee video streaming and gameday broadcasts. He broadcasted more than 120 events in 12 different sports and hosted 34 weekly coaches’ shows in his two years at Frostburg State. He also wrote press releases, game recaps, contributed to media guides and compiled information for student-athlete bios.
Stanko graduated with a degree in sports broadcasting/sports information from Waynesburg in April 2017. During his time at Waynesburg, he was active in WCTV, WUSN, WCYJ-FM and the Yellow Jacket. He worked with the PAC in 2016 to produce the PAC Football Focus podcast.
Stanko earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Frostburg State in May 2019 and is a member of the College Sports Communicators.
Stanko and his wife Marissa (’16) reside in Waynesburg with their cats, Milo, Rio and Millie.
