Biography
Dr. Leann E. Romitti is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Counseling Programs at Waynesburg University and a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Waynesburg University, where her dissertation, LGBTQ+ Identified Counselors: Experiences in the Clinical Workplace, examined identity, microaggressions, minority stress, and supportive practices in clinical settings. She holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies from Bethany College.
Dr. Romitti teaches in both master’s and doctoral CACREP-accredited programs. Her teaching emphasizes ethical embodiment, culturally responsive practice, and the integration of theory with applied clinical skills. Dr. Romitti is a Licensed Professional Counselor (PA) and a National Certified Counselor. She is the founder of a private practice specializing in trauma-informed care for women, LGBTQIA+, and relationship-diverse communities. Her clinical and scholarly work is grounded in feminist and constructivist frameworks, with a strong emphasis on social justice, power and privilege, and culturally responsive counseling.
She has presented at national and state conferences on supporting LGBTQ+ counselors, suicide prevention, and culturally competent substance use treatment. In 2023, she presented her dissertation research at the American Counseling Association National Conference, contributing to professional dialogue on supporting LGBTQ+-identified counselors in clinical settings. Her broader research and advocacy interests include LGBTQ+ counselor competence, affirming and socially just counseling and supervision, access to competent care for marginalized communities, and the impact of power and privilege in counseling education.
