Waynesburg University’s Department of Fine Arts will host the fall Student Art Exhibit Monday, Nov. 22, through Friday, Dec. 3.
The opening reception will be held Monday, Nov. 22, in the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend
The student art exhibition is held every semester to showcase the culmination of students’ best work from each studio course. This year’s exhibition will include drawings, pastels, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking and graphic work.
“These shows are my favorite exhibitions because, as a professor of art, the most important goal I have is to show students the hidden talents they have but never knew they possessed,” said Andrew Heisey, chair of the Department of Fine Arts. “Usually, students in these courses are surprised that they can make beautiful things of value. Then, seeing their work matted and hung in the gallery changes it from a drawing on paper to a real piece of art.”
Despite being held every semester, Heisey said each student exhibition is a unique experience.
“You just never know what will be in the gallery,” Heisey said. “One thing I am really excited about is from the Sculpture course. Every year we make clay head busts in this class and they stand out in the gallery.”
The Benedum Fine Arts Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In compliance with the Keep Waynesburg Well Plan, all guests are asked to wear a mask when attending the exhibition.
