Waynesburg University has named Diana Hernández, daughter of Gilbert and Katya Hernández, a 2023 recipient of the distinguished Founders Scholarship.
Hernández, a high school senior from Sayreville, New Jersey, will attend Waynesburg in the fall.
"I am truly grateful and deeply honored to [receive] this award," shared Hernández. "I hope to honor God in these next years of my life and to prove worthy of such an honor."
Hernández attends Sayreville War Memorial High School, where she is a member of the National English Honor Society and National Hispanic Honor Society.
She participates in Air Force JROTC, Christian Fellowship Club, the International Society and Impact, a photography team for her local youth group.
Hernández holds the position of Core Commander with her JROTC unit.
At Waynesburg, she will study communication.
"I am so excited for the next chapter of my life and [to experience] something so incredibly new and different at such an amazing university," Hernández added.
Other recipients of the Founders Scholarship for 2023 include Isabella Griffith, Mason Lewis, Waverly Lorne, Ethan Mata and Amanda Sweeney.
Matriculation for the Class of 2027 will be held August 25.
