On Fridays throughout the month of March, the Waynesburg University Pathways Center will host a Résumé Madness Competition, a bracket-style competition where students compete against peers to see whose résumé would be selected out of a group. As students are eliminated, they will receive résumé feedback.
“The goal of this event is to help students understand the application and selection process while offering a chance for students to get feedback from Pathways team members or guest résumé reviewers,” explained Sarah Bell, director of the Pathways Center.
An updated résumé allows graduates to put their best foot forward as they seek future employment or graduate school acceptance, and the competition aspect of the event will allow students to see how their résumé stacks up compared to those of their peers.
“Résumé review and other career services are always available to Waynesburg University students,” said Bell. “Students can request a résumé review appointment at any time by emailing pathways@waynesburg.edu, and this meeting can be conducted virtually or in person to meet student needs.”
The Pathways Center hosts various events throughout the year, ranging from career fairs and employer visits to Career Closet Fashion Shows and experiential opportunities. Each of these programs and services is offered to support professional development and growth.
Bell’s biggest piece of advice for students when it comes to creating a powerful and effective résumé is to let someone else review it.
“If it's not a member of the Pathways Center team, a friend, mentor or coach may be able to take a look,” said Bell. “Getting an extra set of eyes on this document is essential, as another person may be able to offer advice or insight that can make a huge difference.”
All résumés are due by Feb. 27, and results are posted weekly throughout the month of March.
