During my time at WU, I feel as though I have worn many different hats. I started my journey on the track team, and I loved the people and the sense of community it provided. However, over time, I became overwhelmed by race anxiety and the demands of working consistently. This led me to make the incredibly difficult decision to step away from the sport. It was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever made, but with the support of my coach and the guidance center, I was able to prioritize my well-being and make the decision for myself.
Around that same time, I began working full-time as an emergency EMT in Greene County. This job exposed me to the realities of the community surrounding our university and highlighted the deep need for service and outreach. It was both one of the most rewarding and most challenging experiences of my undergraduate years, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Throughout my time at Waynesburg, I grew both professionally and personally, little by little each year. As a biology major and chemistry minor, I was heavily involved in both departments. I was incredibly fortunate to learn from mentors who truly impacted my education and life in meaningful ways. The professors and adjuncts in both biology and chemistry were encouraging, passionate and knowledgeable, and they shaped not only my academic experience but also my personal growth. Because of the foundation I built at WU, I now feel equipped with the skills, education, and passion to pursue a career as a physician assistant. I am currently in the final stages of submitting my applications and hope to begin a program early next year.
If I could offer one piece of advice to incoming students, it would be this: take full advantage of the education you are pursuing. While it can be tempting to put off assignments or procrastinate, always remind yourself why you’re here and what you’re working toward. Some of my best memories were weekend activities with friends, made even better knowing I had completed my assignments and done well on an exam the week before. With strong time management, you absolutely can achieve academic success while still enjoying your college experience.
A college education is a privilege, and not something to take for granted. Although higher education can be rigorous and demanding, when you are studying something you are truly passionate about, each assignment becomes an opportunity to grow and deepen your knowledge. Pursue a degree based on what you love, not based on what others expect of you or what society deems most practical.
I never imagined I would grow to love WU the way I have. I owe that love to the relationships I formed over the past four years. My professors, friends, mentors, teammates, and classmates became my support system, and many of them will remain important figures in my life for years to come. I am forever grateful that I chose Waynesburg University. Your education is something no one can ever take away from you, so choose a university that makes you happy, and make the most of every moment.
