University to host alumni event, Homecoming @ Home

Rachel Pellegrino Sep 21, 2020

Waynesburg University will host a Homecoming @ Home celebration Thursday, Sept. 24, through Saturday, Sept. 26. The virtual event will serve as an opportunity to connect alumni from all across the globe.

“Homecoming @ Home weekend will provide a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect with one another—from wherever they may be—as well as reconnect with the University and learn more about the latest from campus,” said David Floyd, director of Development and Alumni Relations. “While the Alumni Office will certainly miss having alumni back on campus, we are excited to offer a full weekend of virtual programming that is available to alumni all across the globe.”

Among the weekend festivities are the 24th annual Waynesburg University Virtual 5K Run and Walk and a 50th Reunion Coffee and Tea with President Lee.

In addition to adapting past Homecoming events, this online format has provided new opportunities for events that are not usually incorporated into an in-person Homecoming.

On Friday, Sept. 25, an alumni faculty panel will be held featuring Waynesburg alumni who also serve as current faculty members. The panel includes Dr. Michelle Steimer (MA '12, Ph.D. '18), assistant professor of counseling for the Graduate and Professional Studies Counseling Program; Bill Stough ('83, MBA '94), assistant professor of business administration; Sherry Parsons ('05, MSN '09), assistant professor of nursing; and Faith Musko ('05), assistant professor of forensic science.

A Trivia Night for graduates from the past ten years (class years 2010-2020), will be held Friday, Sept. 25, and a Waynesburg athletics huddle with Head Wrestling and Tennis Coach Ron Headlee will be held Saturday, Sept. 26.

“While it is not our traditional in-person Homecoming, we are excited about Homecoming @ Home for two main reasons,” Floyd said. “One, it gives us the opportunity to reach a broader audience than our traditional in-person event, given that ease of attendance and flexibility for all alumni across globe. Two, we know our alumni wish to stay engaged and know about the institution, and we certainly would not want to deny them the ability to do that.”

Registration for the Homecoming events is required. To register, click here.
