On Wednesday, Oct. 29, Waynesburg University held its annual Criminal Justice & Social Sciences Career Fair in the Marissa Fieldhouse. Nearly forty local, state and federal agencies and organizations attended to recruit job applicants and potential interns.
“This event is unique, as students have the opportunity to work as Event Staff by helping recruiters check in, assisting with parking, and monitoring security — and then they can switch gears and attend the event,” said Sarah Bell, director of the Pathways Center, which hosted the event in partnership with the Department of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences. "Employers then have the unique experience of seeing these students in action before they participate in the fair. Recruiters are consistently impressed with Waynesburg University students who attend this event.”
Among the organizations represented were the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA, Washington County Probation Services and Southwestern PA Human Services. Representatives from these agencies have shared that the University’s Criminal Justice & Social Sciences job fair is one of the best they have experienced. Hundreds of students attend the fair each year, with many receiving employment and interview offers from the experience.
As always, this year’s event was open to all University students, not just law enforcement-related majors. Following last year's fair, students from Nursing, Business, Psychology and 13 other programs received employment opportunities from these agencies and organizations, making the job fair one of the University’s most important professional development events.
“It is an awesome opportunity to meet with representatives of these agencies to learn about what they do and how to apply for internships and employments,” said Dr. Kenneth Cairns. chairperson for the Criminal Justice and Social Science Department and associate professor of Criminal Justice.
