Waynesburg University’s Symphonic Band is set to perform a concert on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. in the Marsh Center. This performance is one of two concerts the Symphonic Band performs during the semester.
The concert is free and open to the public.
This year, the symphonic band will be performing several standard band pieces, including Toccata for Band by Frank Erickson; Ride by Samuel Hazo, a Pittsburgh composer; and Ye Banks and Braes O'Bonnie Doon by Percy Aldridge Grainger.
“The band is a great place for students who love music and community,” said Eric Brewer, director of the music program. “We prepare two concerts each semester as a band, and numerous other performances as a music program. Students love the chance to interact outside of their other courses.”
The Symphonic Band meets twice a week during the semester and performs at least four concerts each academic year. The band is comprised of music majors and students from other academic disciplines across Waynesburg University's campus. Students learn standard band music as well as popular music from American culture.
