Waynesburg University welcomed representatives from community organizations, corporations and government agencies to campus Thursday, Aug. 13, for the President’s Partner Recognition Breakfast, an event celebrating the many individuals and groups whose support helps advance the University’s mission.
Hosted by President Douglas G. Lee and Office of Institutional Advancement staff in Benedum Dining Hall, the breakfast brought together representatives from Allegheny Health Network, Baily Insurance, Blueprints, Community Bank, the Community Foundation of Greene County, Family Ties Home Care, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Greene County, Greene County Country Club, Mosites Construction Company, Schneider Downs, St. Clair Health, UPMC Greene, UPMC Washington, Washington Greene Health Foundation and more. The event also included leaders from the County of Greene and local school districts; elected officials, including representatives from the offices of U.S. Sen. John Fetterman and U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler; and members of Waynesburg University’s Board of Trustees and its Alumni Council.
“Partnerships really do come in all shapes and sizes,” said David Floyd, assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Waynesburg University. “Everything from financial contributions and other in-kind support, to letters of support for grant applications, community collaborations, advisory groups and corporate relationships that connect our students to internships, externships and job opportunities upon graduation.”
The morning featured remarks from President Lee and a keynote address from Dr. Sherry Zak, chairperson for the Department of Nursing. Following the program, guests were invited to tour the University’s Nursing Clinical Learning Center, including the state-of-the-art Immersion Room.
The Nursing Clinical Learning Center provides students with hands-on opportunities to prepare for careers in health care. The donor-funded Immersion Room, installed during the spring 2026 semester, is an AI- and VR-powered learning environment designed by Nasco Healthcare and is the first immersion lab of its kind in the nation. Located in Stewart Science Hall, the facility uses advanced projection, laser and touchscreen technology to place students in realistic clinical scenarios and team-based patient care experiences.
Waynesburg University’s Department of Nursing offers traditional BSN, LPN to BSN and Second Degree BSN pathways, providing flexible opportunities for students at different stages of their educational and professional journeys. Together, the programs help prepare registered nurses and address nursing workforce needs throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania and beyond.
The breakfast served as an opportunity for the University to recognize the many forms of support provided by its partners and to highlight the ways those relationships contribute to student success and the broader community.
“Having been a student, having worked with prospective students and families, and now having been in my role in advancement for more than nine years, I’ve really seen how the variety of contributions you all make in so many ways comes together to impact our students, our community, and our world in such a powerful way,” Floyd told the audience.
