Waynesburg U. Mock Crime Scene Workshop to be held Oct. 18

Aubrey Lesnett Sep 23, 2025

Waynesburg University will host a Mock Crime Scene Workshop on Oct. 18, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with registration beginning in Benedum Dining Hall at 8:15 a.m. The event aims to recruit students and is expected to have 100 attendees.

The main goals of the event since its inception have been to introduce the concepts of forensic investigations to interested high school-aged students and to allow them to experience a day on Waynesburg's campus and interact with University instructors and facilities.

The workshop shows students how professionals approach their work, how their career paths look and what the academic curricula would be to achieve those career goals.

The event will split the students into groups that rotate through stations at the event, including:

  • Information session: The students and parents are addressed about Waynesburg University programs and how those majors prepare students for different career paths. The session also expounds on the remarkable professional backgrounds of Waynesburg's instructors.
  • Internships/research: Current students will give brief presentations on their research or internship experiences. "It's a great way to showcase the opportunities our students can obtain while working through our programs," said Bob Barnhart, enrollment management & degree completion coordinator.
  • Student-run workshops: Current students will introduce a specific forensic technique like fundamentals of fingerprinting or firearm and tool mark analysis.

The registration capacity for this event has been exceeded, but waitlist registration remains available. Click here to register for the waitlist.
