Waynesburg University hosted its Business & Communication Job & Internship Fair Thursday, Sept. 24, giving students the opportunity to connect with employers and explore potential job and internship opportunities.
Organized by the Pathways Center, the fair took place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Marsh Center, located on the bottom floor of Roberts Chapel. The event focused on networking and career exploration for students interested in business, communication and related fields.
A total of 22 employers registered for the event, giving students the chance to meet with businesses from across the region. Of those employers, 12 were local businesses, seven came from Pittsburgh, two were from Morgantown and one was from Washington.
The employers represented a variety of opportunities for students looking to gain professional experience, learn more about potential career paths and begin making connections in their fields.
Recruitment for the event began in early July, with efforts focused on bringing a variety of businesses to campus for students to interact with.
"With nearly 100 students in attendance, I consider the event a success and am grateful for everyone who helped make it happen," said Katlin Denny, academic and career support specialist, who organized the fair. "A special thank you to the business and communications departments for all of their promotion of the fair. Without the support of the faculty and the students being present, we ultimately wouldn't be able to host an event like this."
The fair provided students with an opportunity to go beyond the classroom by speaking directly with professionals and learning more about what employers look for in potential employees and interns.
Events like the Business & Communication Job & Internship Fair also allow students to begin building professional networks before graduation. Meeting employers in person can help students learn about available opportunities while developing communication and networking skills that can be useful throughout their careers.
With 22 employers participating from communities throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the fair brought together Waynesburg students and professionals from a variety of locations and career opportunities.
The event served as a chance for students to take the next step toward their professional goals while connecting with employers who may offer future internship, employment and networking opportunities.
