Waynesburg U. Theatre Department Set to Perform “Almost, Maine”

Steven Trettel Nov 18, 2025

The stage is set for the Waynesburg University Theater Department’s newest production, “Almost, Maine.” Opening Wednesday, Nov. 19, and running until Saturday, Nov. 22, the play will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

General admission is $5, and admission for students and employees of the University is $3.

Produced by a cast and crew of more than 20 students and two faculty members, the play, originally written by John Cariani, centers around a fictional town in northern Maine called “Almost.” The play is comprised of a series of vignettes about the town’s residents taking place over the course of one evening, all connected by themes of loss and love.

“That’s what’s cool about our department,” said the University’s Director of Theatre and the play’s director Ted Watts Jr. “In a bigger program, the production is separated out of necessity, but this is a fun way to run the program. The students in the cast design the sets, the costumes, the lighting; usually professors are doing all of it.”

Working on 'Almost, Maine' has been an interesting experience,” said Tyler Drum, a senior electronic media major and cast member. “I think it's a great showcase of how every member of the production matters, even if a smaller role might make them think otherwise. I also think it's a very beautiful play about love and life, and it's very easy to get lost in this very silly, but very real, world that we've crafted on stage.”
