Goodbye 2025, and hello 2026!
The Waynesburg University Writing Center opens for undergraduate students’ appointments on January 20, 2026. Undergraduate students can book an appointment Monday through Thursday online via the WC online using the “WC Spring 2026” schedule to meet with a friendly, trained writing tutor either in-person at the center or online via a link in the appointment. Also, as always, Waynesburg University’s Graduate and Professional Studies Writing Center schedule (WC E-tutoring) is already open for these higher-level year-round programs at Waynesburg. We are looking forward to helping writers grow in 2026.
In January, resolutions for personal improvement and growth abound, and nothing facilitates growth better than a friendly support team! Whether in physical fitness, nutrition, spirituality, academics or mental health, Waynesburg University offers multiple people who are able to encourage your personal growth, and in the Pathways Center, there is a whole floor dedicated to support services for your academic and professional development.
At the Writing Center, we offer a warm, welcoming space to talk about all forms of writing in a safe and supportive way. Growing writers need to question, organize thoughts, think critically and consider whether their writing choices are appropriate, clear and effective for their intended purpose. They need to express ideas without fear of judgment while simultaneously seeking another person’s point of view—a vulnerable condition necessary for learning. The Writing Center is designed to facilitate these honest conversations, to address the writer’s questions and offer some practical guidance for next steps.
In our fabulous facility at the back of Pathways Center in room B16 of Eberly Library, the awesome whiteboard tables, markers and erasers are ready for your next appointment’s notes, outlining ideas or a friendly drawing. Our shelves are organized with style guides, grammar helpers, genre guides, binder clips, paper clips, colored pencils and paper, a slinky and even a panda in a sand garden to rake, just in case. We’ve restocked snacks and hot beverages and the tissues and cough drops, too. The lights are dimmed. It’s not a great setting for a physical workout, but it is perfect for a mental workout-- the perfect place for personal gray matter to grow.
Why use the Writing Center? While critical thinking and self-examination are built into the learning and writing process, engaging in dialogue about writing, the ideas and choices one makes, can take a writer’s development to a new level, like adding weight training to cardio workouts.
In 2026, I hope you pursue personal growth and resolve to take advantage of the support services offered at Waynesburg University. The tutors and I are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the Writing Center again!
