The Writing Center is Hiring

Stefanie Wielkopolan Apr 6, 2023

Happy Spring, Waynesburg! At the Writing Center, we are getting ready to wrap-up another wonderful academic year. Before we close the doors for summer, we have exciting news we would like to share with you. This spring, we are holding interviews for Fall 2023 tutor candidates. What’s a potential tutor candidate? I am so glad you asked!

If you’ve visited the Writing Center, you know that our focus and goal is to sit next to you and help you in any stage of the writing process. Our tutors help with brainstorming, outlining, first drafts, final drafts, citations and all things writing. Tutors are here for you, as your peer, to help you navigate the exciting and oftentimes frustrating world of research and writing. The tutors in the Writing Center love the written word, but more importantly, they enjoy helping fellow Waynesburg students find their footing and their writing voice.

While many of our tutors are English majors, a majority of tutors are not. We have tutors from the departments of forensics, psychology, education, science and more. We have found that having tutors with diverse backgrounds and set of skills helps us serve our student population better. This combination also offers a rich experience for all coming to see us.

The job of a writing center tutor is dynamic and unique. You have the opportunity to help students from all over campus, and it’s also a great way to learn about different departments and disciplines. At the Writing Center, no one, especially tutors and students, are expected to know everything. We are a collaborative and supportive space that works together to find the answers to tricky questions about writing. If you enjoy writing, have a strong GPA and love to help others, we would like to meet with you!

We will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 19, at 4 p.m. in the Writing Center (Eberly Library, 2nd Floor). If you are interested in learning more about the position and how to apply, we encourage you to attend. If you are interested in applying, but can’t make the meeting, do not worry! All interested candidates can email me directly at stefanie.wielkopolan@waynesburg.edu to chat about this opportunity.

We look forward to meeting you and going over all the Writing Center has to offer potential tutors. See you April 19!
