Sherry Zak

Dr. Sherry L. Zak, PhD, RN, serves as Director of Nursing and Associate Professor at Waynesburg University, where she provides leadership for undergraduate and graduate nursing programs while supporting initiatives focused on student success, academic quality, program growth and innovation. She also serves as Director of Health Services, promoting student wellness and overseeing campus health initiatives.

Dr. Zak is a proud graduate of Waynesburg University, earning both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degrees from the institution. She later earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education with a specialization in nursing education from Capella University.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Zak has taught across all levels of the nursing curriculum, with a particular focus on sophomore-level nursing education. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes creating meaningful learning experiences that foster critical thinking, confidence and professional growth among students. She is passionate about mentoring future nurses and helping students successfully transition from foundational knowledge into clinical practice.

Dr. Zak’s professional interests include nursing education, simulation and experiential learning, curriculum innovation, workforce development, student success initiatives and strengthening educational pathways into nursing. Under her leadership, Waynesburg University's Department of Nursing continues to expand opportunities through traditional, second-degree and LPN-to-BSN pathways while emphasizing excellence in clinical preparation and compassionate care.

As both a graduate and leader within the program, Dr. Zak remains deeply committed to preparing future nurses and creating environments where students can grow academically, professionally and personally.
