Chuck and Shirley Baily

Jun 27, 2025

Chuck and Shirley Baily have a deep, multigenerational connection to Waynesburg University, rooted in both personal history and shared values. Chuck’s first introduction to the school came through a junior high Bible study led by then-President “Prexy” Stewart, an experience that not only shaped his spiritual growth but also introduced him to future Trustee, Rev. Dr. Donald Wilson, who became an early mentor. The Baily family legacy at Waynesburg stretches even further—Chuck’s grandfathers were both alumni, and his grandfather and father each served as chairman of the Board of Trustees. Though Chuck and Shirley earned their degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, they returned to Waynesburg in 1973 as residence hall directors through a pioneering partnership with the Coalition for Christian Outreach (CCO), laying the groundwork for a lasting campus ministry tradition.

Their support for Waynesburg University is rooted in a rich history and a heartfelt commitment to Christian service and student engagement. Beyond their professional and volunteer roles, Chuck and Shirley have remained deeply involved with the University for decades—through church ministry, mentoring CCO staff, teaching and generous financial support. Their enduring dedication is perhaps best symbolized by the Richard L. Baily Memorial Scholarship Fund, established to honor Chuck’s father and his lifelong bond with Waynesburg, as well as by the naming of The Baily Room in Benedum Hall, which commemorates the University’s 175th Anniversary and celebrates the family’s legacy. Together, the Bailys have built a lasting tradition of faith, education, and service—one that continues to shape the Waynesburg University community.
