As part of Waynesburg University’s 175th Anniversary celebration, Jim Crockard, a 1991 Accounting alumnus and a successful oil & gas executive and entrepreneur, and his wife, Melanie (Zapotosky) Crockard, a 1997 Nursing alumna, made a generous gift in memory of his paternal grandmother. The Enid Hope (Waters ’46) Crockard Classroom, funded by the James & Melanie Crockard Foundation and dedicated in the University’s Department of Education, honors Enid’s years as an educator.
After graduating from nearby Cumberland Township High School, Enid earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science-Sociology and Spanish from then-Waynesburg College. While at Waynesburg, she participated in chorus, something she continued into adulthood at Hewitt Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and played the violin. During her undergraduate years, Enid also participated in Bible study, the Psi Chi psychology fraternity, and the Phi Alpha Theta history honorary. Her degree and those co-curricular experiences prepared Enid for a career in education. After a short teaching stint at Avella High School, she taught both Spanish and history at Fairchance-Georges High School in neighboring Fayette County.
Jim and Melanie hope that this memorial gift will help to equip the next generation of educators to make the type of positive difference his grandmother did in the lives of so many.
