Homecoming 2022 to be held Oct. 6 through 8

Micah Leith Sep 28, 2022

Waynesburg University will host Homecoming Thursday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 8, with both virtual and in-person offerings.

“We are excited to be able to welcome back many of our alumni and friends to campus at a time where we are able to gather on a larger scale than we have been able to in the past two-plus years,” said Maura Fenske, coordinator of development and alumni relations.

Two virtual events will kick off the festivities Thursday evening. The Alumni Office, President Lee and staff from the Department of Athletics will host a welcoming ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

Immediately following the ceremony, alumni will be able to participate in a virtual trivia night with the Alumni Office.

A special reunion will be held for the classes of 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017. Those classes will be honored at a celebration Friday night in the Denny House, where President Lee will address those in attendance.

“My favorite event has become our Friday night All-Alumni Celebration at the Denny House, which is such a unique and beautiful location that is meaningful to our alumni, as it was once owned by the family of Josephine Denny, a 1915 Waynesburg graduate,” shared Fenske.

Additionally, the class of 1972 will be honored with a 50th reunion brunch, hosted by President and Mrs. Lee at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The University will also hold special reunions Saturday morning for graduates of the Department of Biology, Environmental Science and Health Science, Bonner Scholars, Stover Scholars, and the track and field and cross country teams.

The 26th annual 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday morning. Following that, alumni will check in at an open house at the Nest between 10 a.m. and noon.

The Yellow Jackets will take on Carnegie Mellon University in the homecoming football game, which will include a halftime crowning ceremony for the Homecoming King and Queen. The game will kick off at 1 p.m.

Immediately following the game, the Alumni Office will hold the 5th Quarter Alumni Gathering outside the back gate of John F. Wiley Stadium. Complimentary refreshments and games will be provided.

Events will wrap up with a soccer doubleheader Saturday night. Both the men’s and women’s teams will take on Allegheny College at John F. Wiley Stadium. The men’s game starts at 6 p.m., and the women’s game will begin at 8 p.m.

A shuttle service will be provided Friday and Saturday evenings. On Friday night, the shuttle will run from several Waynesburg hotels to the Denny House. On Saturday, the shuttle will run from campus to John F. Wiley Stadium. Due to limited parking, alumni are encouraged to use the shuttle service when available.
