Student-run PRSSA chapter recognized for excellence for 6th consecutive year

Paige Livingston Jan 28, 2022

Waynesburg University’s Chapter of the Public Relations Students Society of America (PRSSA) was deemed Chapter of the Year by PRSA Pittsburgh for the sixth consecutive year this January.

The University’s Chapter has accumulated six of these awards now, consistently receiving the title since its origination in 2017. They are recognized as the leading, student-run Chapter of PRSSA in the greater Pittsburgh Area.

Student members of the Chapter represented Waynesburg University at the Renaissance Awards ceremony, hosted in-person this year by the Public Relations Society of America Thursday, January 27. Public relations professionals and representees from local agencies and universities annually gather for this event to celebrate the local achievements within their field. Dozens of awards are bestowed honoring people, corporations and the content they create.

In addition to the Chapter of the Year award, the Chapter will also be receiving an award for Best Student Campaign. The Chapter ran the Give Me Five campaign in the spring of 2021, where students could learn about general benefits of being a member of PRSSA. The Give Me Five campaign was a way to increase students’ knowledge of Public Relations, drive recruitment, and increase membership for the Waynesburg Chapter.

Along with receiving Chapter of the Year and Best Student Campaign award, Waynesburg University’s Chapter also continues to uphold its status as a Star Chapter of PRSSA. Receiving this award annually requires fulfillment of a list of accomplishments by the Chapter and its members. Some of these criteria include conducting high school outreach, citing how the Chapter raised attention to ethics, conducting a community service project, a student campaign and more.

WUPRSSA continues to remain true to their values of professionalism development, community involvement and achieving excellence as a Chapter despite adversities brought about by the pandemic. They are looking forward to a bright finish to the semester and many new possibilities come fall of 2022.
