Waynesburg soccer players to serve in Costa Rica

Teghan Simonton May 8, 2019

Waynesburg University will send 32 soccer players to serve in Costa Rica this summer. Led by Brad Heethuis, men’s soccer coach, Laura Heethuis, women’s soccer coach, Zachary Morgan, men’s and women’s assistant soccer coach, and Erin Leaver, assistant athletic trainer, the athletes departed Monday, May 6, and will return Sunday, May 12.

In Costa Rica, the students will work in a local school and church, spend time at a women’s shelter and compete in two international soccer matches. Morgan and Leaver said they are excited to spend time with the athletes and watch them experience a foreign environment for both service and competition.

“I am looking forward to seeing our athletes step out of their comfort zones,” said Morgan. “So much growth can occur for individuals on a trip like this.”
