Waynesburg U. to host overnight visits and admitted student day

Steven Trettel Feb 11, 2026

Jacket Day, Waynesburg University’s annual admitted student event, is right around the corner. On Saturday, Feb. 21, the University will host more than 100 high schoolers looking to attend as first-year students in the 2026-27 academic year, 20 of whom will be staying overnight on Friday, Feb. 20.

“It's important to know how effective these overnights are,” said Alexia Schmader, admissions counselor and student overnight visit coordinator. “When students come to campus, we get a really great turnover of deposits. That's great to know that if we let them stay here and we introduce them to students on campus, they'll really connect with it.”

Overnight visitors will arrive at 4 p.m. Friday and meet their host students, paired based on major, sport and other activities. The groups will share a meal together, explore campus and compete in a Mario Kart tournament at the Esports Arena in Buhl Hall before retiring back to their hosts’ dorms for the evening.

The next morning, the 20 overnight students will join the other arriving high schoolers to take their ID card picture, receive their mailbox key and attend a welcome party in Benedum Dining Hall, before heading to Roberts Chapel for a session with University President Douglas G. Lee.

Afterwards, they will have the opportunity to attend informational panels about classes, the working world and campus organizations. Parents will also have the opportunity to attend a Q&A session with Enrollment Management and Degree Completion Coordinator Robert Barnhart.

Students will then be served lunch in the dining hall, after which they will be able to tour dorms and academic departments. Throughout the day, the University will also interview students applying for academic scholarships, including the Stover, Bonner and Founders Scholarships.

“Picking a university that feels like home is one of the most important things you can do,” said Caroline Poole, admissions counselor and Jacket Day organizer. “So, living a day in the life as a college student is essential in your college journey. Learning if you fit in here, if you like it, if you can see yourself here for four years, and if that's where you're feeling led, then you should attend Waynesburg University.”
