On Oct. 2, the Waynesburg University Student Nursing Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) chapter hosted a professional development roundtable for nursing majors in Alumni Hall. Ten nurses currently working in the industry, four of whom are Waynesburg University alumni, comprised the panel, moderated by senior nursing major Sarah Maskarinec.

From nurse practitioners to pediatric intensive care nurses, and workers' compensation case managers to inpatient psychiatric nurses, professionals from every corner of the field attended the event to share their experiences and give career advice to current students. Former Waynesburg University Instructor of Nursing Alayna Rode, who now works at Cigna Healthcare as a complex nurse case manager, participated as one of the panelists.
“I am so proud of our SNAP students for putting together this panel on nursing specialties,” Assistant Professor of Nursing Erika Nakutis said. “Events like this let students see all that’s out there in the nursing profession and highlight the importance of exploring the different paths nursing has to offer as they plan their careers.”
The Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) is a non-profit organization and constituent of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), representing nursing students throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, according to their website.
Consistently ranked a best value school, Waynesburg University’s Strategy for the 21st Century affirms its commitment to developing an entrepreneurial mindset and ethical leadership skills for all students. Rooted in its mission of faith, learning and service, the private, Christian University is located on a traditional campus in the hills of southwestern Pennsylvania.
