The Department of Humanities, Arts & Ministry cultivates creativity, critical inquiry, faith-informed understanding and meaningful exploration of purpose through the study of the arts, humanities and ministry. Rooted in the mission of Waynesburg University, the department equips students to communicate effectively, engage culture thoughtfully, lead with integrity and pursue lives of vocation and purpose. Through experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, students develop the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to serve the church, workplace and community for the glory of God.

As a student in the Department of Humanities, Arts & Ministry, you'll learn the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings and historical trends in your particular field of study. Students develop highly transferable skills valued by employers, including critical thinking and analysis, communication, cultural competence, research and information literacy, problem-solving and ethical decision-making. Our students become ethical leaders, creative problem-solvers, community changemakers, culturally informed citizens, ministry and nonprofit leaders, and storytellers and advocates.

Students in the Department of Humanities, Arts & Ministry engage in meaningful real-world experiences through internships, service-learning projects, performances, community partnerships and collaboration, research and creative exhibitions. Students are encouraged not only to study culture and community, but to actively shape them.

Biblical and Ministry Studies

As a Biblical and Ministries Studies (BMS) major, you'll explore the historical, literary, theological and cultural dimensions of the Christian faith while developing skills in leadership, communication, critical thinking, ethical decision-making and ministry practice.
