Beginning Asynchronous Individualized Course of Study (BASICS)
This asynchronous online class provides educators with an overview of the digitized primary sources and teacher materials freely available through the Library of Congress web site, loc.gov, as well as promising practices for their successful use in the classroom.
Participants independently complete twelve TPS Tutorials and then reflect on and relate learnings to their unique classroom situations through electronic Discussion Board postings. A TPS facilitator provides feedback and suggestions for expanded classroom applications and additional resources. A Certificate of Completion will document twelve hours of continuing education.
“The online skills that I learned in BASICS were vital to the programs and presentations I presented to teachers and librarians at various conferences.”
2020 EDC Program Evaluation
"Taking the time to explore the LOC site while considering various classroom strategies has been exciting and helpful. I would not have understood the depth and variety of resources available without the experience."
2021 National History Day Teacher Leader
"While some instructors may have just responded with a standard "good job" and went on with their day, Ann took the time to provide catered and personalized feedback. . . She was easily the gem of the course."
